House Democrats accused President Donald Trump on Monday of trying to use the Justice Department to unfairly pay for past physical damages, and demanded that the Department’s top officials come clean on the matter.
In a public letter to Attorney General Pam Bondi, said Deputy Attorney General Blanche and Stanley Own Woodward, the Committees of the House Judnley Democrats called Demoutout “illegal millions to steal” millions of dollars.
Trump’s interest in the payment was first reported last week by the New York Times, which said Trump began seeking what was estimated to be $230 million through the DOJ’s administrative process that he would normally have to agree to. Trump filed claims in 2023 and 2024, before he took office, according to the report.

“You may face civil liability, a conduct investigation, professional discipline and possible criminal liability for defrauding the United States,” the lawmakers wrote.
They were among many Democrats, and some Republicans, looking closely at the President to accept a large sum of money in the department that he is doing now.
Trump was recently briefed on the report in the Oval Office, saying “it would be a surprise” for him to stand up. Trump is reportedly seeking damages from the DoJ investigation into the alleged Trump-Russia collusion and the Jack Smith special investigation.
“In other words, have you ever had one of those situations where you have to decide how much to pay for damages?” Trump said. “But I’ve been hurt a lot. And any money I’d get, I’d give to love.”

House Democrats who oppose that package “don’t get the right to bribe or kickback by promising to donate bribes.”
They also wanted Blanche and Woodward, who worked on the legal team of the law enforcement agency during his criminal prosecution, to recuse themselves from any decisions on compensation for Trump.
Asked for comment, a spokesman for the Republican Committee suspected that the Democrats would be too fixated on Trump.

“Democrats should focus on opening up the government and paying federal workers, many of whom live in Raskin’s village, rather than on public display,” said Committee spokesman Russell. “But sadly, their priority will always be attacking President Trump instead of paying for the military, air traffic controllers, and families suffering because of the Democrat shutdown.”
