Aezo 9-inch frame $80: This frame will do the job, but the Fardo app, rather than offering a dedicated azeeo app, which we have seen in other cheap frames and deserves close counters to pricier counterparts. It’s better than some of the cheaper options we’ve reviewed, but, like Cozyla, they fall under the $100 limit. If you can spend a little more, the $150 AURA Carver is the best.
Aura Mason for $199: This was my first favorite from aura, with a solid frame and the ability to switch between landscape and portrait mode. It’s still a great frame, but Aura said they sunset the model, but it will remain available until sold. It is still available until now.
Azorpa 10-inch Digital Photo Frame for $90: This slim frame is functional and has a good price point that is inexpensive, and it can be modified. It also has its own dedicated operating system, unlike several cheaper models that all use the same operating system. But the ratio is more boring than smartphone photos, so I found myself needing to resize the photos or have an extra border along the two sides. If you don’t mind the border and want a really cheap frame, this is solid.
Cozyla Frames: We’ve tried a few in this category. The image quality was good and there were strong features such as displaying images that fit the current frame rate. I found the app to be frustrating, though, and it comes pre-loaded with unnecessary graphics. You could hide them from your frame, but there was no obvious way to remove them from the app entirely. If you happen to find one at a deep discount, we’ll grab it, but other than that, I’d wait for an update.
Familink 10-inch Digital Photo Frame for $160: The Familink frame works with or without an Internet connection, thanks to its 4G SIM card. One will need to set up an account on the website or through an app (iOS, Android) so that family members can post photos (or conversations) to the frame. There is no slideshow feature – the latest installation shows automatically, and you can scroll manually. But the screen still looks great.
The Loop Family Frame for $160: This is a great option if you want to write images on the display, instead of using an app or email. It’s a great and easy way to use with family members. It’s a solid picture mode, and it has a touch screen.
MyFirst Fodle Frame for $99: This framework is aimed at children, with its cover you can draw and a feed app that family members can use to share photos and chat. But it is very expensive for the quality. It was slow and not as direct as the aura and no matter how many times I deleted the photos from the library, they kept coming back.
Pexar 2k Digital Photo Frame by Lexar for $170: This frame can rotate to portrait or landscape mode, and has a small case that attaches the Magnet in any position. Nice frame, but the screen is not as good as those of the same price. pexar is made by lexar but uses the company’s app on the side, framework, which works well but has a blue upleader limited to 10 images.
Skylight 10-inch Frame $170: This frame was an early honor, and it’s still a solid frame. We like some better frames for the price, including the new Skylight frame 2 (especially with its frame accessories). This one has only 8GB of storage, compared to many other frames that have 16GB or more.
Vieunite’s Textura Digital Canvas for $754 (USD shown in cart): Good at showing off technical skills. It’s bright and high-def enough that you don’t lose the integrity of the original painting. It is very expensive, however, even if it is cheaper than buying a real van gogh.

How do digital picture frames work?
Digital photo frames collect your photos, usually through an app but also via email and sometimes text, and display them on a digital screen. They are designed to look like a real frame, but instead display hundreds or thousands of images without needing to distort anything or print every single image. Our favorite picks all have an app with storage, so they use Wi-Fi to connect photos to the frame, but some frames also have physical storage on the stock and remember the photos.
What should you look for in a digital photo frame?
Here are the top features to check for in a frame:
- Screen size: This will affect how the image fits on the screen, depending on the device you used to take it. Smartphone images are usually in 4: 3 Ratio, for example, while the standard ratio of DSLR cameras and cameras is 3: 2. But there are cheap cheap frames with a smaller ratio, 16: 9, which leads to any area of space around the image or the need to place all the images you include. Check this ratio beforehand to find the best pairing for your digital frame and your photos.
- Position options: Our budget pick, the aura carver, can only be installed in landscape mode, although it can place two outstanding images side by side. Some digital photo frames can be rotated, but I find it’s much easier to choose one style for your frame and upload images that best match your orientation.
- Additional fees and storage limits: Aura, our top pick, offers free photo storage, but other companies charge tiers or have limited storage. Check this out beforehand to make sure you’re prepared.

What are the last options?
All of the best photo frames we recommend use cloud-based storage, so you’ll upload your photos to the frame’s cloud server to access and display them. Aura has unlimited photo storage, while Nixplay charges $30 per year for unlimited photo storage (and other features). While both use cloud storage, these are from reputable companies with defined privacy and security practices. Some of the cheaper frames you will find will not have these processes in place.
Some frames have internal storage that can be expanded with SD cards, or even using a USB stick. These options can be more secure, especially if you move the images yourself from the computer to a USB or SD card and connect it to the frame, but it’s also a lot of work.
What about Smart displays like digital photos?
If you already have a smart display, you can set it to cycle through your photo albums when it’s not working. The best of these is the Google Nest max ($230). It uses Google Photos to pull images, so if you’re already a Google Photos user, it’s an easy transition. But even if you’re not, you can add your photos to Google photos a lot, it’s much easier than using Amazon’s upload tool in the Alexa app if you’re using an echo Smart Smart 8 ($180) or similar.
You might not think that photos count as sensitive information, compared to a bank account statement or your social security number. But it can be harmful to find photos of loved ones used for malicious or undesirable purposes.

Nixplay offers proper security measures, such as including your photos during transfer, and aura offers the option to remove metadata, such as where the photo was taken. However, both said they would disclose personal information if they were sued or ejected, and also did not provide security guarantees for hacking.
If you are concerned about security, you can avoid connecting to third-party services, but your safest option is to simply download several images to the tablet and disable all Internet connections.
