Outside’ puts the Switch 2’s controls to its greatest test

After Samus’ visor, with the spread of the construction of other species and fluorescent flora appeared before the player, Prime Prime 4: Beyond you feel completely unfamiliar and yet very familiar. The AMURY-TOTING AUTT hunter felt even better on the Switch 2 (Also available on the original Switch), not least because of the hardware touch. But the beauty and detail will outlast any hardware, too Metroid Prime 4 It looks like something worthy of leaving us with something truly remarkable.
Nintendo invited me to play a few Metroid Prime 4Opening slots, and I even wondered what it means that this is the first Nintendo first-party title before the end of the year.
The Switch 2 has had a lot of games debuting this year, I think It’s a donkeyalthough nothing seems to have been found more than Prime Prime 4: Beyondpresenting on Dec. 4 Forward It promises to hit 60 FPS in 4K resolution when button 2 is set. Of course, Nintendo Switch sequels are still selling like hotcakes, but this is one of the first games to show how new titles can use the experience of first-person games on consoles.
The game remembers what made the series so popular on Nintendo’s classic hardware. Retro Studios’ last mainline game in the series, Metroid Prime 3: Corruptionis over 18 years old. Metroid: fear The original Switch was a strong entry in the franchise, but the flagship games always represent the best of Nintendo hardware, from the Gamecube to the Wii. Nintendo announced Prime 4 The game came back in 2017, and it took all the breathing changes before it finally arrived in time for the month.
Metroid Prime 4 you remember that the atmosphere is king
During my 2-hour time with this game, I stopped often, opened my scanning visor, and read the little entries of every natural minute I could find. Of course, it will give little insight into the enemies you face, but the game is ready to share a tidbit about the line of new ants hidden in the hollow of a fallen tree. It’s the kind of game that thrives on detail and begs to be explored. Like the beginning Metroid Prime Back on the GameCube in 2002 (and more recently, at some point back in time), sometimes the player saw eyes ‘appear to be reflected in his visor, indicating that he is not a hunter of music coming out of the body of his adventure; you live in this world. He is as much a part of the natural universe as every gargantuan “holy tree” or sacred mushroom that shoots explosive seeds.
From the main menu, the music of the game was the highlight. I have asked nintendo many times if the composer of the original trilogy, Kenji Yamamoto (who also did the music Super Metroid On the SNES), was involved, although the company declined to say. The ethereal tones are embellished with a combination of mechanical and organic sounds, like creatures that now occupy buildings invaded by dead civilizations.

It’s a driving atmosphere The porchmore than any manager or piece that sticks to our collective memory. The fourth title in the series seems to have it, although the game doesn’t feel almost like two titles. About midway through the incident and moving from one room to the next, I found the engineer who had been attacked by the alliance, Macle Mackenzie. He is a type of divination, a character written in such a way that I began to fear that he will become a voice in your ear, destroying any idea of skin. After a few minutes of that tagging, I’m really clueless. He will join you in the fight and he needs to be treated when he goes down, but it seemed that he did not see in the way. I just hope she doesn’t become a regular presence throughout the adventure and that samus can have some alone time.
Get ready for Psychic Samus

Samus may be more prone to offensive items attacking her form. between Metroid FusionSamus was infected with an alien virus that completely changed her DNA. between Metroid Prime 3: CorruptionSamus was once again contaminated with a cazon of caustic substances, and spent the rest of the game trying to stop its spread. At least, this time, the series ‘Heroine does not get her body programmed by a foreign pathogen or mutagenic substance. Oh, the old parasitic metroids (floating brain bags with two pincers on their feet) are somehow involved in eating, but it’s not clear at the beginning of the game.
After a brief battle with the Space Pirates during an attack on the Galactic Federation Stronghold, Samus is drawn into the struggle for an unknown artifact. Events – as they often do – go-go-go, and Samus is transported by an alien planet, viewros, in an unknown part of the galaxy. A nearby Aliking race, the Lamorns, gift Samus the power to tap into their species’ ‘deadly mind abilities’ in hopes that she can remember and spread their culture throughout the known world. The bounty hunter must use his newfound abilities to fulfill Lamorn’s wishes and stop the machinations of his old nemesis, Bounty Hunter Sylux (you’ll see that big, blue transition when you play Metroid bounty hunters on nintendo DS).
Like many The porch Games, Samus lost most of her abilities after the first level and gradually regained them throughout the game. However, the twist this time is that Samuus also gains a lot of magical powers. The first is tied to his scanning visor (renamed the psychic visor) that allows him to open selected doors and manipulate orbs of psychic energy, called “psychic stimuli.” The sharp power allows him to inject psychic fire that is timed, allowing players to control its trajectory. I had a chance to test this against a local boss, a metroid-infested plant creature with books you need to destroy by directing your psychic beam around the psychic field.
Adults The porch Formula was alive and well in the new title, although my short demo focused on the first level which was a series of straight halls with a small room to explore. I didn’t even get to try any gameplay of samus’ new whip, a motorcycle called vi-o-la (and I’ll die on the hill for a cool name for riding on two wheels). I have to trust that this game opens up its spaces and lets me test my time.
It’s a game with a lot of control options

The real thing Metroid Prime it was a game designed for a different console era. Retro Studios worked to make the original GameCube controller feel like its complete lack of two full sticks wasn’t a limitation. The 2002 Classic used a lock-on mechanic to help you find your target, and try skill levels so players wouldn’t run into Lava as their vision tracked their enemy’s movements. It was working, although the design was expanded internally Metroid Prime 2: Echoes‘More claustrophobic streets. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption he expanded the formula thanks to the Wii’s motion control. The gameplay involves more aiming and shooting, and while it feels smoother, it comes at the sacrifice of the previous open level design.
Compare with other entries in the series, Prime Prime 4: Beyond It features a smorgasbord of control options. The default style uses your Joy-Con 2 or switch 2 pro controller (or any other controller compatible with GYRO controllers) in the Consard Console Shooter Settup, where the right stick controls your aim. You still have the ability to lock onto enemies, but now you have better precision where you target enemies with the help of the Gyro or Switch 2 mouse controls. In the opening level of the game, the last boss creature will protect weak glowing points with its shielded arms, requiring you to aim with more precision.
Forward It feels more wonky if you try and treat it like a traditional first-person shooter. My demo was running on a 4K TV at 60 FPS with “Quality” settings. Nintendo Reps told me that if I switch it to “performance” mode for 1080p resolution and 120 FPS, it’s very funny, as if I played on PC. Hell, Ntendo even let me play on the big, metallic MusePad (they told me over and over it was impossible to sell, unfortunately). It’s clear the game wants you to use the old-school lock system anyway, and most players will resist that simple one.
That brings us to the second advanced control system, and it’s somewhat stranger than the first. Instead of your canon being fixed in place on the screen, it can move freely, as if you are standing on your head and moving the gun in front of your face. If you bring your life to the edge of the screen, it will start to rotate. The whole system uses arspoller gyros in an almost Wii fashion.

This control scheme is very similar to military first-person shooters Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm 2: Vietnamand when I told Nintendo that, apparently they had never heard of those games. This is a scheme that takes a lot of getting used to, and I don’t have time to sit there and be dialed back while I figure out a better way to use it.
There’s a lot to see in this game, and Nintendo is holding a lot of details close to its chest. The Switch 2 needs a game to show other developers how to integrate mouse controls for first-person games. It worked well enough Metroid Prime 4 That leaves me hoping for a break from some of the 2 shortcomings. More than that, I hope Metroid Prime could return in glorious fashion to take its place among Nintendo’s stand-up series.
