Reiner Children Speak Out After Parents’ Tragic Deaths
On Wednesday, Jake and Romy Reiner shared their first joint statement since their parents were killed. In it, they expressed their sadness and asked for privacy and compassion during this unimaginable time.
“Words cannot even describe the unimaginable pain we feel every moment of the day,” the brothers said in a statement. “The terrible and tragic loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something no one should have to witness. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.” They went on to say, “We are very grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but also from people from all walks of life,” the statement read. “Now we ask for respect and privacy, to be influenced by compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the wonderful life they lived and the love they gave.”
Nick Reiner Charged with Parents’ Murder, Court Brief
Less than 24 hours after being charged with two counts of murder, Nick Reiner appeared in a Los Angeles court Wednesday for the first time since his arrest in connection with the deaths of his parents. His trial has been postponed to January 7, the second delay since he was taken into custody on Sunday. Reiner’s attorney, Alan Jackson, addressed the crowd outside the courtroom after the hearing, saying:
“First, and most importantly, this is a tragic tragedy for the Reiner family. … Our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family,” he told reporters outside court after the hearing. He added that “there are very complex and serious issues associated with this case [that] it needs to be carefully worked out and tested and looked at and analyzed.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later ruled the deaths due to multiple injuries. When he appeared in court briefly, the suspect, 32, said nothing but replied, “Yes, your honor,” while wearing a blue vest. Prosecutors have charged Reiner with two counts of murder, including a special circumstance involving the use of a knife, and if convicted, he could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty. During Reiner’s first appearance in front of a judge, he pleaded not guilty.
