Lawyer and Patriots Supporters Respond to Cheating Charges

The news came after Stefon Diggs’ attorney appeared in court Tuesday in Dedham, Massachusetts. The incident reportedly took place on December 2. It is not yet clear what led to the charges being dropped, according to the Associated Press. His charges include culpable strangulation or drowning as well as assault and battery. Diggs will appear in court again on January 21 for a motion hearing.
Meanwhile, citing a “newly released incident report,” TMZ reports that the incident involved her former personal chef, who filed a police report on December 16 about it. The female worker reportedly said that Stefon opened the door to her bedroom on December 2 to continue discussing the money she owed. She says Stefon became angry during their conversation, slapped her in the face and “tried to choke her using his elbow on her neck.” It is reported that he tried to push her away, but it is alleged that he started to choke her and tightened his hand. The personal chef says he can’t breathe and “maybe black out.” Diggs allegedly released her by throwing her on the bed and saying something like, “I thought so.” When he allegedly tried to defend his salary, Diggs allegedly replied, “lied” before leaving his room.
Also, the woman told police that she did not take pictures of her injuries but that she had redness on her upper chest area. When the incident happened, the cook revealed that he had not received his monthly payment. Diggs’ employment began in July, and was to continue through the 2025 NFL season. Although they allegedly initially agreed on weekly payments, they later changed to monthly payments, according to the incident report.
Stefon Diggs’ attorney denies the allegations
Attorney for Steven Diggs, David Meiertold the Associated Press in an emailed statement that Diggs “he denies these allegations.” Attorney Meier said the allegations never happened. Furthermore, he describes them as unsubstantiated and unsupported.
“The timing and motivation for making the allegations is crystal clear: they are the direct result of an employer-employee financial dispute that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction,” Meier wrote.
New England Patriots Respond to Diggs Charges
In a statement, the Patriots said they also stood by Diggs: “We support Stefanu,” said the group. The full memo clarifies that they are aware of the charges, and that all recipients have denied the allegations in interviews. While the team stood by Diggs, their statement also said they will continue to gather information about the incident and “cooperate fully” with authorities and the NFL.
“Out of respect for all parties involved, and as this is an ongoing legal matter, we will not be commenting further.”
After not doing well in Houston last year, Stefon Diggs ended up in New England. He signed a three-year, $69 million contract in free agency that guaranteed him $26 million. Diggs proved a reliable target for second-year quarterback Drake Maye. Additionally, he is a big reason why the team once again captured the AFC East title as the team headed for the playoffs.
However, off the field, his tenure with the New England Patriots got off to a rough start. In May, a video went viral on social media showing Stefon Diggs passing what appeared to be a bag of pink crystals to women on a boat. It’s unclear what the matter is, and an NFL spokesman said the league would not comment. Patriots coach Mike Vrabel said the team will handle the matter internally.
