Spring & Mulberry extends chocolate recall to 8 products over salmonella fears

The nationwide recall of Spring & Mulberry date chocolate has grown to eight products due to salmonella contamination fears, up from the one product that began to be recalled on Monday.

Thursday’s update from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) affects most of the company’s chocolate products known for being sweetened with dates only.

While the recall initially affected Spring & Mulberry’s Mint Leaf flavors, it now includes Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date and Pure Dark Minis.

“Because salmonella can be difficult to detect and may appear sporadically, we are now expanding the recall beyond Mint Leaf in consultation with the FDA to include additional production lots made at the same time on the same machine,” the Raleigh, North Carolina-based company said.
