Amy Dowden Teams up with my best friend to encourage regular breast checks

He even danced Star Amy Dowden has joined forces with Gemma Ainger to launch a new app called Blende My.
The app’s mission is to help people log in with their bodies. Simple, supportive, and free, the app sends a monthly reminder to do self-checks and allows users to log any changes quickly and privately. The tone is warm, warm and flattering – because looking at your boobs, chest or pecs should not feel intimidating or clinical.
My bosom friend was created by Gemma Ainger, a sales professional from Guernsey who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 42, after seeing something unusual in the shower, although it was not visible, they felt healthy and had no family history.
A few weeks later, Gemma was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer that had already spread to her lymph nodes. During surgery, and chemotherapy, and radiotherapy, and in remission, she put her energy into creating something that would make a real difference and positively impact many lives.
From Gemma’s situation, if they were checking regularly maybe they would have caught her sooner – trying to prevent others from being in the same situation was one of her common motivations when creating the app. My Breast Friend is designed to make monthly self-checks quick, easy, and completely normal, create positive reinforcement around breast health, and embed a really important process.
The app was launched in partnership with breast cancer survivor Amy Dowden Mbe, star of BBC ONE He even danced. From her diagnosis, Amy knows the importance of breast cancer detection and has since used her social platform to promote this message.
Speaking about the app, Amy says: “When Gemma told about her plans for my friend’s breast it was the best thing and she wanted it to be very important that breast cancer is detected early and if you don’t look that breast cancer is detected early. It doesn’t matter how old you are, it doesn’t matter how old you are. There is no reason not to download this app, it can literally save your life.”
“It’s not about fear or cancer,” Gemma adds. “It’s about self-care, awareness and confidence. We should all know what’s normal in our bodies and we should all take care of ourselves – it’s one of the easiest ways we can protect our health.
“I’m so excited to have Amy join me in being my breast friend! Her breast cancer journey is so similar to sharing a passion for health, we can do more self-examination work by changing my way of being a breast friend.”
The app is built with medical input from leading asthma experts, legal guidance from Appleby Global Law Firm, and Agency Digital’s technical expertise, is media oriented, reliable and safe to use.
With 1 in 7 women likely to develop breast cancer in their lifetime and half of women in the UK not getting screened regularly, my breast friend aims to make breast exams as routine as brushing your teeth.
Gemma’s long-term goal is to bring my breast friend into schools, universities and workplaces, and to partner with health and lifestyle brands that share the same message – Early detection saves lives. The app will also use anonymous data to track the direction of awareness and measure whether more people are looking and so on.
“Not all breast cancer can be seen in the target but you would like to be in a position to be aware of your routine and make this a way to look everywhere, it can have better results, resulting in good results, Gemma says. “That’s all this – dealing with breast health and feeling confident about visible changes.”
My best friend is available to download now from the App Store and Google Play. Check out the official website and Instagram pages for more details.
