After the viral incident, Cunningham was charged with second degree assault – a sentence with a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. His sentencing is set for January 22, 2026, when a judge will decide whether he will serve time or receive additional sentences. At the time, attorney Jackson urged the public to remember that children deserve to be protected, especially within the beauty service spaces.

What led to Cunningham’s salon controversy?

As previously reported, the altercation began when Jayla Cunningham said the 15-year-old customer tried to leave the salon without paying for a $150 style that included extensions. The video that has gone viral – which Jayla allegedly sent – shows him dragging a young man inside his hoodie and cutting the extensions without a scarf.
