A North Carolina father who called 911 to admit to killing his four children and hiding their bodies in the trunk of a car near Zebulon is accused of telling investigators behind the scenes, according to a report.
Court records show Wellington Delano Dickens III, 38, is charged with four counts of first degree murder after law enforcement officials said he confessed to killing his children for several months.
The Jobston County Sheriff’s Office posted on social media that deputies responded to the Dickens home shortly after 10 PM on Oct.
Deputies found Dickens at home along with her 3-year-old son, who was alive and still crying.
When deputies searched the garage, they found what appeared to be a person inside the trunk of the vehicle. Investigators say the remains may have been there for a while.

In a 911 call recording obtained by Wral-TV, a man who identified himself as Wellington Dickens gave a home address and allegedly told the callers that he had killed his children.
During the call, Dickens reportedly told the broadcaster, “There’s a lot to explain, but in short, it’s probably my fault.”
Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said during a news conference late last month that investigators believe the death occurred over several months, beginning in September and ending in September.

Bizzell said he didn’t know why Dickens stayed for the children, “but as a Sheriff, as a father, as a grandmother, I say there is no reason to kill his children.”
Authorities say Dickens’ wife, Stephanie Rae Jones Dickens, died in April 2024 from the effects of a miscarriage. Investigators believe the killings took place between May and September of this year.
Neighbors described the family as reclusive and said the children were at home. Deputies say the home was previously searched when Stephanie Dickens died, but her death was determined to be natural causes after she stopped medical treatment.

“Neighbors said they never saw them go out, and their homes were arranged, so they were just locked in the house,” said Capt Pate.
In court documents obtained by NBC News, the Dickens are said to have admitted to burying the fifth child in the woods behind their home. It is said that Dicklens told the investigators that his child’s health declined before he covered the child with plastic or paper and buried the child in the backyard.
Authorities say the death was never reported, and relatives told investigators they never saw the child because Dickens moved away. The infant boys have not been found, according to NBC News.

“This case affected every deputy, every detective, and every responder that went to that house,” Bizzell said. “It’s something you never forget.”
Details about how the children died have not been released, but officials say the state medical examiner’s office is continuing to examine the remains and determine the cause of death. Authorities also said the search for the fifth child will continue once weather conditions improve, according to court documents obtained by NBC News.
