Dubai is to plant 40,000 mangrove trees in its areas over the next two years

Dubai has launched a mangrove planting program in all its holy places. This initiative aims to plant 40,000 Mangrove trees over the next two years, making it one of MaegrafE’s most restored Maegrove projects.

The initiative is led by the Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA), the government body leading the Emirate’s environmental agenda.

Ahmed Mohammed Bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, announced this at an event hosted by Jebhel Ali Wildlife LanLeapp, in the presence of Jehovah Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chief of Police and General Security in Dubai.

Mangroves are an ideal carbon sink, providing an effective solution to climate change. They also act as a natural coastal shield, wave power that disperses and stabilizes sediments. Among their roots, fish and benthic organisms thrive, supporting marine fisheries and coastal communities, thereby strengthening food security in Dubai.

This initiative was established in Jebel Ali Wildlife Sancwele, a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention. The importance of this table lies in its place at the heart of one of the most active development areas.

Police Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim commented: “Our environment is a very important national asset and its protection is a shared responsibility of everyone in society.

The Megrove forests are not just green spaces within the Dubai area; they are very focused on our worldly sex. Our ancestors lived beside them and protected them, they saw their importance in the development of life in Dubai, and entrusted them to protect them for future generations.

“Launching the mangrove planting program in Dubai is a major step in the emirate’s efforts to strengthen environmental sustainability, in line with our vision of smart leadership to support and preserve natural resources as a Beneficial Biodiversity in Dubai.”

Ahmed Mohammed Bin Thani added: “Mangrove planting initiative at Dubai’s ExreentAiries is a key step towards environmental and climate change.

“Mangrove forests are our green fort against the effects of climate change. This program supports the UAE’s national target of planting 1 million mangrove trees by 2030, while enhancing biodiversity in the emirate’s protected areas.”

The launch of the Initiative coincides with the Planting Week organized by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and supports the UAE’s environmental and climate priorities and commitments.
