Eric Adams reveals how NYC crypto coin can fight antisemitism, anti-Americanism

Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams warned Monday of the rise of antisemitism and “anti-Americanism” across the country, saying a newly launched digital currency in New York City could help fund education and awareness programs while also promoting the city as a cryptocurrency center.

“There is a wave of anti-Americanism that is sweeping not only our Ivy League colleges, but our inner cities,” Adams said during an interview on “Mornings with Maria.”

Adams explained that the proceeds from the coin will fund three programs: antisemitism awareness and education programs, cryptocurrency and blockchain education for New York City students and scholarships for talented youth from underserved communities.

“[With] the money that is generated from this coin, we will enter when we say ‘how can we stop this massive increase in antisemitism across the country and around the world?’ and, ‘how do we deal with the rise of anti-Americanism?'” he said.

He added that blockchain technology offers a way to fund those efforts without increasing taxes.

“The money raised will go to non-profits like Combat Antisemitism, into college funds, like historic HBCUs, so this is money, without raising taxes, that you can use to fight problems, social issues in our city.”

Adams’ comments come as New York City faces political changes following the inauguration of Mayor Zohran Mamdani, whose administration has begun rolling back many of Adams’ policies.

Among those policies was an executive order linking the city’s definition of antisemitism to the standard of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which defines antisemitism as “hatred of Jews.”

Mamdani withdrew the policy on Jan. 1 — his first day in office.

Despite the changes to the new administration, Adams said he remains optimistic about the city’s future.

“I still believe that this city is the financial capital of the world, and we will see how blockchain technology can improve the government, not fight the government.”
