New York Gov. Kathy Hochul appeared to cast doubt on the industry of New York City – who chose Zohran Mamdani free buses.
Hochul, speaking at the Somos conference in Puerto Rico, said, “We’re spending a lot of money, so I can’t stop a system that’s taking money now with a system that depends on getting buses and lower classes,” according to the New York Post.
The newspaper said Hochul was making comments in reference to money the State has given the Metropolitan Transport Authority – which runs New York City’s bus system – for major projects.
“But can we find a way to make it more accessible to people in need? Yes, we added Saturday.

The comments come almost two months after Hochul endorsed Mamdani in the governorship race. FOX News Digital has reached out to Mamdani’s campaign for comment.
“I continue to be excited about the mission to make America’s slowest buses faster and freer,” the post quoted Mamdani as saying during a related press conference on Monday. “And I’m grateful for the governor’s continued cooperation in delivering that cost-effectiveness agenda.”
Mamdani, a Socialist, has taxed the wealthy citizens and companies in the city to fund free buses and childcare.

Under Mamdani’s plan, the tax rate for ONECH OLWINI’s richest will increase by 2 percent, while the corporate tax rate will rise to match Jersey’s new 11.5% rate, “says the news” in October.
“I have said time and time again that I believe these are the most direct ways to make money, making buses faster and freeing up the top 1% of 11.5% corporate taxes,” said Mamdani. “Now, if there are other ways to raise this money to support this agenda, the most important thing is that we pay for the agenda.”
It currently costs $2.90 to ride a bus in New York City, while the featured buses are $7 per ride. However, the MTA has been trying to combat the fading of the years.
