The head of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) issued a warning to New Yorkers after Zohran Mamdani was named the next mayor of New York City, calling him a “clear and present” danger to the Jewish community and vowing to deal with him.
“Hundreds of thousands of Jewish New Yorkers are scared, and that fear is well-founded,” Adl CEO Jonathan Greenblatt said on Fox News Radio’s “Brian Kilmeade Show.”
Mamdani was declared the winner of the Mayoral race on Tuesday night. He defeated Gov. Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa. The democratically defined democracy has faced scrutiny over past statements labeled as antisemitic by opponents.

“We’ve learned as Jews over the years to believe people when they tell you they’re going to do something, as you take them at their word,” GreenBlatt said Wednesday.

“This mater – elected, if you will, to say things and commit to doing things that will make this place very unsafe for Jewish New Yorkers New Yorkers.”
Greenblatt noted that he has seen a rise in antisemitism in the city and that New Yorkers are now on paper with Mamdani’s election.

The 34-year-old former state assemblyman from Queens has repeatedly refused to abandon the slogan “Sweep the field.” This term was widely used by Israeli protesters and interpreted as violence against the Jewish State.

The Mayor-Elect was also criticized for posting a picture of himself smiling at Imam Siraj Wahhaj, who served as a witness to the Bostermind of 1993 Trade Center. Wahhaj also had a history of protecting convicted terrorists and raising money for their legal defense.
In response to Mamdani’s rise, Greenblatt said that the ADL has launched several initiatives, including a tip line for New Yorkers to report incidents of antisemitism.
“When New Yorkers meet the budget, where they work or where they pray or where they shop or where they live they join the meeting,” he said.

Greenblatt said the ADL has also started something he calls the “Mamdani Monitor,” which will track what the next mayor’s powers are, and what plans he has in place.
“We’re going to hold this guy accountable,” Greenblatt vowed.
Mamdani has strongly denied allegations of antisemitism, saying his criticism is directed at the Israeli government, not the Jewish people. He has previously vowed to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he enters New York City.
He confirmed that position during an appearance on “The Story” in October.

“I said that this is a city that believes in international law, and this is a city that wants to step up and support those beliefs,” said Mamdani.
The International Criminal Court has accused Netanyahu of ‘war crimes’ over Israel’s war with Hamas, which the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry says has killed more than 67,000 people.
