Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev says AI will create new jobs, not eliminate them

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev says artificial intelligence is doing ‘interesting’ things and discusses the next phase of retail investing on ‘FOX Business In Depth.’
As fears grow that artificial intelligence (AI) will end jobs, Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev says the opposite may be true.
Tenev argues that AI will not eliminate work, but rather define what it means to have work.
“AI will lead to an explosion of new jobs, but new families of jobs,” Tenev told FOX Business’ Charles Payne during “FOX Business In Depth: The AI Arms Race.”
Tenev said skepticism about new technology is nothing new, compared to today’s AI revolution and the nation’s shift from farm and factory work to office and digital work over the past century.

“Maybe 100 years ago, our ancestors would have looked at what you and I are doing right now, which is like talking to each other digitally with AI. They thought, you know, that’s not a real job,” said Tenev.
“I think in the same way that they won’t think of what we do as a real job, we are [going to] We are looking forward to the families of jobs and job opportunities in the future,” he added.

Those jobs of the future, Tenev said, could include new forms of investing and trading for a living, roles that most people don’t currently consider full-time jobs.
“Maybe that’s not a real job,” Tenev said.

“But for the people of tomorrow, it will feel real and stressful, and it will have all the emotions we get from our jobs,” he added.

Tenev argues that technological disruption has been reshaping work norms rather than eliminating them entirely. He noted that although similar changes have occurred in the past, today’s pace of change is much faster.
“Although we have seen such disturbances in the past, we feel that it will be faster,” he said.
“The speed, the rate of change, and the acceleration make us very nervous.”

Automation and AI have already begun to change some professional jobs, with companies like Amazon and Salesforce citing it as one factor behind recent layoffs.
The changes have caused concern in Washington, where a December 2025 Senate report listed fast food, customer service and executive assistant positions among the most vulnerable to automation.
