An Israeli man arriving in Tel Aviv from Thailand was reportedly caught with 186 strange animals in his suitcase.
The suspect, a man in his 20s from Bnei Brak, was caught by customs inspectors at Ben Gurion Airport (BGA), according to the Israeli authorities TPS-Il News Agency on Thursday. This news comes from the website of the Federal Government.
This man smuggled snakes, turtles, lizards, frogs, worms and other amphibians.

When going through customs, that person is said to have entered the green lane, unlike the red lane where travelers must declare things.
The captured animals are estimated to be worth tens of thousands of dollars, according to Israel’s tax authorities, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment and Parks Authority.

While all the animals were found alive, officials said the creatures were transported in harsh conditions without food and extreme heat.

The suspect can be charged with aggravated cruelty and violating animal welfare laws.

“These various species can be wild and pose a threat to wildlife and agriculture,” officials said.

“Experience shows that smuggled animals that arrive without proper veterinary inspection often carry diseases and dangerous diseases, and most have died shortly after arrival,” it added.

Passengers can take dogs, cats and exotic birds in the cabin, according to the BGA.

All pets must be approved by the appropriate authorities and animals with visible signs of illness may not be allowed to fly.
Authorities are working to bring the animals back to their homelands.

This type of incident is reported to happen from time to time. In July, a similar incident was reported at the same airport where a person tried to smuggle about 140 exotic reptiles and arthropods into the country.
Cultural explorers found Iguanas, Pythons, tegus and scorpions. One of the snakes in that incident disappeared during the trip, the Jerusalem Post reported.
The Israel Nature and Parks Authority has been saying that wildlife trafficking and importing protected natural resources into Israel constitute a serious violation of many laws, according to Israel.
