- D’Angelo died 7 months later after a private battle with pancreatic cancer, which he hid from his son.
- Michael cherishes the opportunity to reconnect with his father before his death, but says that 2025 was a very difficult and sad year.
In his first interview since the passing of his famous parents, Angelo and Angie Stone, Michael Archer II opened up about the big loss.
Both stars passed earlier this year, just seven months apart from each other. While Stone died in a car accident, Angelo died following a private battle with pancreatic cancer.
During the recent cleanup at The Tamron Hall Show, Michael opened up about the painful truth of losing his mother the morning after he was born, shortly after being approved for a kidney transplant. Michael went on to reveal that he didn’t know his father had cancer until he was diagnosed one day, as D’Angelo tried to protect him from the diagnosis, as their families mourn Angie.
In the interview, Michael revealed that he and his mother were like best friends, talking on the phone often. After his passing, he said that there was and still is silence – there were “nothing” conversations during traffic.
“I’d give anything to have one of them again,” she said.
Michael revealed that Angie, aged 63, died the morning after her 28th birthday. On March 1, a stone car was hit by an accident, causing it to fall. In an obituary filed in September, Stone’s family said the singer was alive after the first hit, but died after the 18-wheeler collided with a full-size car.
One day before that accident, on Michael’s birthday, Angie Stone was allowed to have a kidney transplant, as she was suffering from kidney dialysis. The 28-year-old was supposed to be with his mother in the days leading up to his death, but she encouraged him to celebrate his birthday, according to Michael.
Michael went on to reveal that he went to the club to get two records played on his birthday, and after leaving, he called his mother to revive the songs, but she did not pick up. When Angie called her back, she missed the call.
At about 6 am the next day, her uncle came to her house and told her about the accident, but not the one that Angie died. Michael drove from Atlanta to Alabama, carrying the hope that his mother would survive, but sadly, she was gone.
Just seven months after his mother’s death, Michael was hit by another emotional blow – the loss of his father, whom he had previously met. D’Angelo died in New York City on Oct. 14 after battling pancreatic cancer. He was 51.
After his father’s passing, Michael wrote that 2025 was a “very difficult and sad” year for him. He praised his Father for being where he wanted to be where he wanted most, following the passing of the stones, but, unfortunately, time ran out. “
During an interview with Tamron Hall, Michael’s son said that his father told the family to keep him in the dark about his cancer diagnosis. After receiving a video call from his father, Michael said he started asking his midwives what was going on, and some time later, they called the doctor on the line and gave him the news. After that he went to NYC to be with his father.
