NYC Rideshare Driver Shot on New Year’s Day

New Year’s Day took a turn for the worse Issa Mbolo-Isacdevoted father of four and longtime rideshare driver, when what started as a minor street dispute escalated into deadly violence in the Bronx. The first murder incident in this city in 2026 took the life of Mbolo-Isac a few hours after the ball dropped in Times Square, leaving friends, family and the taxi community stunned.

A Mbolo-Isac Cab driver was killed by road rage
Police found Issa Mbolo-Isac, 55, with gunshot wounds to the head near Morris Avenue and the Cross Bronx Expressway in Mount Hope around 07:00. EMS personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. A native of Burkina Faso, Mbolo-Isac has spent 10 years driving, most recently with Uber, and is described by his colleagues as “a hard working man“WHO”he has never been in trouble.”
Mbolo-Isac Shot Twice in the Head After a Car Collision
According to Fernando Mateo, spokesman for the New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers, the shooting started after a fender-bender. Two men who were in another car started arguing with Issa Mbolo-Isac and “he chased him down [trying] physically removing him from the car,” Mateo was revealed.When he refused to get out of the car, he accelerated the car,” added Mateo.The two people turned around and shot through the window…hitting him twice in the head,Mbolo-Isac’s family and co-workers are demanding justice, and the coalition will offer a $10,000 reward for information leading to the killers. His brother, Mounir Zoron, called the attackers “criminals” and “animals,” insisting that Issa “he did nothing to deserve this.“
Eyewitness Details of Bronx Shooting, Suspect May Have Flee DR
The eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity behind sunglasses and a ski mask, described the chilling moments leading up to the shooting. The man said the gunman left the bar and found his car damaged in a fender-bender. And then, seemingly without thinking, he started shooting at all the cars that passed by. “He was going in and out of this area, he saw that someone had hit his car, he just got out and started shooting at every car that passed by.,” the witness explained through a translator.
Fernando Mateo added that, based on what was reported by an eyewitness, the shooter “he got angry and started shooting and shot the driver,” painting a horrifying picture of the random act of violence that ended my father’s life.We believe the shooter is a Dominican immigrant,” said Mateo.We believe that if he hasn’t fled to the Dominican Republic, he’s probably very close to fleeing there.”
Multiple Shoots Hit NYC’s New Year’s Eve
The Bronx tragedy marked one of several shootings across the city early Thursday. Multiple gunshots erupted after the Times Square ball collapsed, leaving a 61-year-old man shot in East New York. Also, another incident left a 26-year-old woman injured in Cypress Hills. Near Yankee Stadium, a gunman opened fire on three men in the Grand Concourse, leaving at least one injured. Finally, the authorities say that they are still investigating the reasons, and the suspect of the last incident is still at large.
