What was meant to be a celebration site for Howard University quickly turned into a panic when five people were shot near the school on Friday, Oct. 24. FOX5DC reports that shots were fired at the scene of Howard’s downing.

Police have launched an investigation after a shooting near Georgia Avenue and Howard in northwest DC on Friday night injured five people. Washington DC reports that the victims included four adults and a minor, who were taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
By exiting, Howard University said that a fight or an argument between two people broke out before the fire. So far, no information has been left to establish the people involved. In a statement on Saturday, Oct. 25, Howard University confirmed that none of its students, staff, or faculty were injured or involved in the incident.
“The safety and well-being of the Howard University community is our highest priority. HUPD deployed enhanced security measures throughout the weekend at the university and local law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all,” Howard’s statement was read.

CBS news reports that the police arrested two suspects after the shooting and recovered three guns from the scene. So far, the authorities have not shared any additional information about the people or the motive behind the incident. During the press conference, PPD officer Pamela Smith urged people to stop the violence. “We will not tolerate people entering our city with guns,” MPD Smith said.
