Katie’s father Abraham sponsors Operation Midway Blitz after the daughter is killed

When the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) called to ask if they would honor my daughter Katie with “Operation Midway Blitz,” I had questions. I could not agree to anything on behalf of my daughter to see the invisible. But after speaking with DHS and understanding the goals of this project – to emphasize the laws that should protect families like mine and raised Katie’s tragic news – I was convinced that her death would not be in vain.
Katie was brutally murdered on Jan. 19, 2025, in a way that no parent has ever imagined. He was a passenger in a car that ran a red light when an illegal alien, driving drunk at about 80 kilometers per hour, rear-ended his car. The driver, Julio Cucul-Bol, a Guatemalan national in the country illegally and using a false sign, stole from us a bright and loving lady with her whole life ahead of her.
Adding to the horror of that night, after violently destroying the car and the life inside it, he fled the scene – without a second thought for the people he had modeled and killed. He did not try to offer help. He did not seek help. He ran, selfishly and greedily, leaving others to face his destruction.
That is the true measure of a man that is not even fit for our place to begin with.

It seems painfully simple: If this man had not been allowed in our country against federal law, he would not be the way he is, and my daughter would be alive today. If Illinois had real leadership that prioritized public safety in politics – and if the State didn’t double down on the sanctimonious policy that protected this coward – Katie would be with us.
For months, I’ve been saying that it’s much easier to prevent chaos on the front end than it is to clean up mid-day disasters. An ounce of prevention always beats a pound of cure. I have been challenging Illinois politicians to explain how they plan to balance public safety with their open policies and sanctimonious procedures. The silence has been deafening.
And I have asked again and again: What controls or vetting procedures were ever put in place if Illinois politicians opened the back door to anyone and everyone? Who was making sure our communities were safe? Who followed who entered, where they went, or how they were supported?
Anger erupts after illegal immigration allegedly boosts blue-collar couple – ‘How many more?’
Instead of acting with compassion or foresight, Illinois leaders have encouraged and encouraged illegal outrage, sending a dangerous message that anyone can come here without consequence. That is not mercy – that is cruelty. It does not reflect the safety of the residents, and there is no sympathy for the problems, abuse and exploitation of people who have suffered from the people who made that terrible trip.
After Katie’s death, I met with dozens of DHS and Ice Agents and support staff in Chicago. I also sat down with Acting Ice Director Todd Elons, and we talked at length about how open policies are destroying our communities. On the contrary, it could not be more. I was blown away by their expertise, compassion and dedication. These men and women are not the villains some politicians and activists make them out to be. They are Americans trying to do their job – to restore order and balance after years of dangerous neglect. Each of the men and women I met were skilled, professional, and deeply committed to keeping our communities safe.
I can’t help but wonder if any of the ice critics have ever taken the time to live abroad for workers or workers. If they did, I believe they would see what I saw: Dedicated Americans working tirelessly to make our communities safer.

Illinois politicians showed no such compassion. They did not care about Katie’s case because they agreed that it would mean admitting the failure of their policies. It seems their silence isn’t about grief or guilt – it’s about political self-defense. Keeping census numbers and conmetevaal seats seems more important than protecting innocent lives.

Katie lost her life in their cynical game of Russian Roulette. And with him, we lost what he could – his future, his chance to get married, to have children. I will never walk down the line. I will never hold his children. Those are the real consequences of failed leadership.

Our current Illinois politicians should leave the scandal behind, never again hold public office.
That’s why I support “Operation Midway Blitz.” Because it’s time to put accountability back in our own system. It’s time to put the safety of the American people ahead of political games. And it’s time to honor Katie – not just in words, but in action.
