Gamestop’s ‘Console Lars’ post goes viral, gets White House response

Gamestop sparked a viral wave on social media after sending a mock “Order Order” to announce the end of the decades-long war between the video game brands, which was suddenly received from the White House.

The company shared an announcement on X with the title “Gamestop means more console wars.”

Sterling like an official government announcement, the post saw a structure and tone of great order, complete with “but” statements and announcements.

The message went on to say that “everyone who says it’s meltdown is meltdown” and called on the “Console faithful” to “stop animosity, divide the army, and enjoy this new era of gaming.”

GameStop also said it will continue to operate as a “demilitarized zone,” serving gamers on all platforms with hardware, accessories and trade-ins.

The parody struck a chord with the gaming community and spread quickly beyond.

Within hours, the White House eX account joined by sharing President Donald Trump wearing halo armor, driving in front of the White House and the American flag.

The post reads, “Power to the Gamers,” a reference to Gamestop’s well-known slogan.

Another viral post appeared on the account immediately Answer 47, which shared what appeared to be an image produced by Trump shaking hands with the king of halo in the office of halo inside the office of halo in the office of halo inside the office of halo.

The caption read, “Number 9: President Trump manages the 20-year console wars,” suggesting that this was the ninth major conflict he resolved, underscoring Trump’s claims that he ended eight wars.

The online exchange between Gamestop and the White House took off quickly, combining gaming culture and politics in a way that captured the attention of the Internet. The viral moment also gave the retailer another burst of visibility as the meme spread among fans and investors.

Gamestop shares jumped more than 7% in premarket trading early Monday morning after the viral exchange.
