First on fox: The White House is celebrating the reopening of a furnace in Illinois that will send hundreds of jobs – pointing to it as an example of the President’s promise to increase jobs.
“American Steel, American Jobs – that’s what the President promised, and that’s what President Trump is delivering,” White House spokesman Kush Desai told Fox News Digital on Monday. “The steel company’s new plans to restart its Granite City Blast refinery and hire 400 workers are the latest evidence that President Trump’s tariffs, tax cuts, and recovery of our national security.”
US Steel, the nation’s second-largest steel producer, announced in December that it will once again manufacture slabs of steel at its Granite City operation near St. Louis. Louis after the 2023 car ban.
“After several months of careful analysis of customer demand, we decided to restart the furnace,” CEO David Burritt said in a statement, according to media reports. “Steel remains a highly competitive and highly cyclical industry, but we are confident in our ability to safely and efficiently operate the mill to meet 2026 demand.”

In September, US Steel said it was set to stop processing steel slabs following the nippon steel, before bringing the company back to plant production in December.
The White House’s announcement comes as President Donald Trump begins a trip to the US to meet with Americans to discuss his economic policies. The Democratic party has relied on the development of the platform “AFFAFICTION,” which helped to achieve victory in the Off-Season 2025 cycle.
US Steel said it expects to restart steel production at the Illinois plant in 2026, according to the Associated Press.
The outlet reported that there are only 12 steel mills in the entire US, far down from the 140 operating in the 1970s.

Trump is set to travel to Pennsylvania to promote his economic policies in the Beltway, following a series of rallies designed to get help as voters report that the current state of the economy has them on edge. The Trump White House responded with confidence that the President is cleaning up the economic mess left by the administration of the bid and remains on target to bring jobs and lower costs for consumers.

Vice President JD Vance defended the administration’s messaging on NBC News earlier in December, calling it a “hoax” to try to address Trump’s current economic concerns.
“I think the President understands the stakes are very high,” Veance said NBC News. “But I think what the President’s opinion means is that, when we can’t solve all the cheap problems that the Democrats have done – it’s a HOAX.

“I think the voters ultimately have to make that choice,” Venating said in an interview with the outlet. “I can definitely see some of the polling that you’ve seen. But I think the reason we have elections every two years and not year-round, you have to give God, you have to give a little time to these things.”
