Amazing brands are channeling Christmas this holiday season with their latest offering, Fit Prince (changed to the scene in the Frosty Castle scene the night before (insert public holiday here)We are dividednow playing at London’s King’s Case Theatre.
A compilation of all your favorite Netflix and Hallork Christmas movies, A suitable officer… Combine the thrill of the Quieer with the main disturbances as we are transported to the country of Sweden. The story begins with the tragic death of the king, which puts Prince Eliane (played by Linus Karp) next to the throne. However, in order to become King, Prince Elijah Elijah must not marry, but he must do it before Christmas, which is a few weeks away. The official doesn’t get his potential suits on video, so the race is on to find one before the big holiday.
On the other side of the world, New York Baker Aaron Ebtretch (played by Joseph Martin) Gets an invitation to bake a cake for Elijah’s wedding (due to a lot of interference from another Jenny Puppeton). Feeling defiled after being dumped by his ex (and wanting to make her jealous), Aaron seized the opportunity and made his way to Sweden to meet the prince.
This leads to Prince Elian and Aaron enjoying the stereotypical get-together before naturally falling in love. However, the NYC baker later inspires the prince to explore what lies beyond the castle grounds, setting the scene for more romantic love. A suitable officer… it’s a hilarious rom-com that ticks all the boxes. From the second you walk into the theater, you know you’re in for a great experience. Having never seen an awkward production of the show before, I didn’t know what to expect but I was in tears of laughter from the start. Linus and Joseph have created such an inclusive site, and it’s easy to see why they have such a strong following. The show is a love letter to Linus’ native Sweden but also a caricature of the heteronormative romantic rom-coms we all know and love (even Vanessa Hudgens is a fan… If you know, you know).
Linus and Joseph buffalo Their performance throughout, and as well as playing Prince Elian and Aaron respectively, also takes on other roles in the evening including djhering Jenny and Gerta. Their chemistry is unmatched (unconfirmed due to the couple actually getting married in real life), but they also had a funny radury with the audience. There were a few technical difficulties in the evening but they dealt with them in a good way, laughed off any problems and kept the crowd talking.
While Linus and Joseph are the stars of the show, there are also video contributions from all the other well-known faces like angela unduku, yshee mwana as the Queen of England, and Heart Stopper Actor Sebastian Croft as Prince Balthazar of Bashington. Each actor was surprisingly included in the story – Thobo to create his own discography was a particular highlight.
The show was also enhanced by extensive audience participation, with lucky audience members selected from the crowd before the show began. With enough roles on offer, including a priest, orphans and Elijah’s horses, this show is sure to be lifted by a crowd donation. On Press Night, select audience members gave it their all, making us laugh in all the right places. We were also treated to a very special guest treat, with Sebastian Croft being offered the role of Doppelgän’s doppelgänger for one night only. This was made fun even in the way that she had to fall in love with her digital character, Prince Balthazar of Bashington.
The beauty of A suitable officer… its flexibility. The longest title includes “(Holiday Entry here)”, which means that Linus and Joseph were able to revise the show from the Edinburgh Fringe run this summer to create this holiday offering. They also keep it up to date with current pop culture references, including a hilarious nod to the viral madame emangalika x tiktok trend thread. Because of the audience participation element, each show will look a little different as you never know how people will react and play their roles.
There is also discarded music throughout the show, composed by songwriter Leland. Whether it’s the Swedenonia National Anthem (with a clean change of songs to match the Plot), the powerful songs of Baab Songs with the power to hit with ABBA, or each track evokes interest in its own way and adds a lot of depth.
As Christmas specials go, A suitable officer… It is also a great alternative to your traditional pantomime. 70 Minutes in a Minute packs a punch in all the right ways and will undoubtedly leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
