Cambodia and Thailand on Sunday signed an extended ceasefire agreement on Sunday that President Donald Trump helped broker over the summer, ending their border disputes.

Trump threatened higher tariffs against both countries to get them to continue agreeing to end the war, which left scores of people dead and hundreds of thousands in talks.

The President watched as Panbodian Prime Hun Manet and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakelel signed the extended fire at the annual conference of the Southeast Asian Nations.

The agreement requires Thailand to release 18 Cambodian soldiers who are holding prisoners and for both countries to first remove heavy weapons from the border.

“We did something a lot of people wouldn’t do,” Trump said.

The Cambodian Prime Minister called it a “Historic Day” and the Thai Prime Minister said the agreement establishes “building blocks for lasting peace.”

The event was Trump’s first since arriving at a summit in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, as part of his Asia tour that also includes stops in Japan and South Korea.

Trump arrived in the capital of Malawi and made his TradeMark campaign dance with local producers. He was also seen waving the American flag in one hand and the Malawian flag in the other.

Malaysian Prime Minister Ibrahim praised the agreement between Thailand and Cambodia, saying during the opening of the conference that “it reminds us that reconciliation is not an indication is not consent, but an act of courage.”

After the ceasefire agreement was signed, Trump reached separate economic deals with Cambodia and Thailand.

Trump has also signed agreements with Malaysia involving the trading of minerals and critical minerals. The US has been working to expand its supply chains to reduce dependence on China, as Beijing has limited exports of key technology products.

The US and Malaysia issued a joint statement saying the agreement was reached “to strengthen our mutual economic relationship, which will provide both overseas exporters with access to each other’s markets.”

“The agreement will build on our long-standing economic relationship, including the United States – Malaysia Investment Exchange Agreement signed in 2004,” the statement said.
