The world lost a true style icon when Valentino Garavani died on Monday at the age of 93.
The Italian, known as the ‘Sheikh of Chic’ whose creations were loved and accepted by some of the most powerful women in showbiz and beyond – from Audrey Hepburn to Princess Diana, died of age-related complications, just a few months after the death of another Italian fashion star, Giorgio Armani.

“The regional sleep will be at PM23 in Piazza Mignanelli 23 on Wednesday January 21 and Thursday January 22nd, from 11: 00 am to 6: 00 pm (local time). The funeral will take place on Friday, January 23 at the Basilica Santa Maria degli Angeli e dei Martiri, in Pialicalla am 18 Rev.
Valentino, who was born in Lombardy in 1932, was known for his collections that reflected luxury and wealth, but it was his signature color ‘Valentino red’, which made this brand a must-have worldwide. It was so meaningful that in Valentino’s last collection in 2008, all the models wore red dresses.
Valentino’s admiration came from one of the richest men in the world, his business rivals and several of the most beautiful women who wore his collection.
Bernard Arnault, chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, said: “He was the creator of refined, glamorous and luxurious fashion, defined by free drawing, woven separately and cinema. Trained in Paris in his youth, Valentino was a tireless champion of haute couture and a great friend of France.”
Donatello Versace called Valentino “a true master” and added: “I will never forget Valentino. He and Giancarlo were with me immediately after I and the whole world learned of the tragic death of my brother (Gianni).
The Armani Company called him “The undisputed master of grace and elegance, Giorgio Armani always had great respect for him. Valentino symbolizes the beauty of couture, artistic precision and a unique vision of fashion defined by pure lines, bright colors and perfect beauty. His passing leaves a great void.”
Hollywood star Cindy Crawford, who was often seen with Valentino, said: “I am saddened to hear of the passing of Valentino Garavani.
Gwyneth Paltrow posted a picture of herself kissing Valentino and wrote: “I was lucky enough to know and love Valentino – to know a real man, in private. A man who loved beauty, his family, his museums, his friends, his dogs, his gardens and the good story of Hollywood. I loved him so much. I loved how he always bothered me to wear mascara at least. This feels like the end of an era. He will be greatly missed by me and all who loved him. Rest in peace, Vava.
